Serial Killers: The Real Life Hannibal Lecters

Hannibal Lecter – The Real Life Hannibal Lecter

Before author Thomas Harris created the character Hannibal Lecter, he studied real-life serial killers. That helped him create this iconic anti-hero.

Some of these killers have a traumatic childhood that may have shaped them into sociopaths. They also have a need to be powerful and feel like they are in control of others’ lives. Here we will discuss about: Serial Killers: The Real Life Hannibal Lecters

1. John Wayne Gacy

The infamous American serial killer John Wayne Gacy, known as the Killer Clown, committed at least 33 murders. He raped, tortured and killed young men and boys, burying their bodies under his house in Norwood Park Township near Chicago, Illinois, where he lived.

Gacy had an abusive childhood and fought with his homosexuality. He was married twice and had two children. He also had an extensive criminal record, including being convicted of sodomy on a teenage boy and served time in prison.

He was once a well-liked member of the Jaycees civic group and an active political leader. He was also a self-made contractor and managed several Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) franchise outlets, earning him the nickname “The Colonel.”

In December 1978, police in Des Plaines, Illinois, investigated the disappearance of a 15-year-old stock boy at a local pharmacy. The boy, Robert Piest, was last seen in the presence of Gacy. The police were soon able to search Gacy’s home and found several items of interest.

During the investigation, Gacy admitted to killing up to 30 people. He confessed to his crimes by pointing to lime-covered human remains inside his crawl space and stating that he had lured his victims to his home, where they would be captured, sexually assaulted, tortured and strangled.

Most of his victims were buried beneath his house, though three others were found on his property and four were found in the nearby Des Plaines River. Six of the victims have not been identified by DNA testing to this day.

His murders were a reflection of his homosexuality and an obsession with miscarriage. He was known to dress in a clown costume and paint his victims in bright colors, making them appear to be dead.

Although he was a notorious killer, Gacy was not the first person to commit these heinous acts. Other serial killers such as Ted Bundy and Charles Manson had similar habits, but did not eat their victims.

Hannibal Lecter is a brilliant, cultured and sophisticated man, but he has a dark side. He has been traumatized by the death of his sister, Mischa. He is driven to take his revenge by avenging her death. He is a ruthless and vicious killer who is willing to use any means necessary to complete his mission.

2. Ted Bundy

A true monster, Ted Bundy was one of America’s most prolific serial killers. He confessed to 30 murders and may have committed many more. He also escaped from prison twice and climbed out of a hole he made in the ceiling of his cell.

In the 1970s, he targeted women in the Seattle area and Oregon. He bludgeoned his victims, mutilated their bodies, and often killed them again. He would then rebury the remains in remote locations and return to them for sexual gratification. He even decapitated his victims, sometimes keeping their skulls in his apartment.

He murdered at least 30 young women, but some experts believe the number of deaths could be much higher. The majority of his victims were women who lived in or near Seattle, but he also attacked women in nearby states.

His earliest known victim, Karen Sparks, was a student and dancer at the University of Washington. In October 1974, he broke into her apartment and bludgeoned her unconscious. He later assaulted Lynda Healy, another UW student. Kloepfer went to police and provided evidence that helped them arrest Bundy.

After that, he started to target other women in the Seattle area and Oregon. He approached them by asking them to help him with something in his car, wearing a cast or appearing disabled, and he would eventually kill them.

The victims he killed had a lot in common: they were all attractive college students with long, dark hair. They were usually very pretty and had everything Bundy wanted: money, class and influence.

He began to scout for his next victim around 1975, and within a month had a list of 10 women who were all similar in appearance to his first confirmed victim. He bludgeoned and raped each of them before dumping their remains in remote locations.

It is unclear what caused him to become so violent and twisted, but he did suffer from depression. He also suffered from bipolar disorder, a condition that can cause extreme mood swings and make people lose control over their impulses.

As a result, he was able to commit such heinous crimes without feeling any remorse or guilt. He was a truly evil person who ruined lives and left the families of his victims in devastating grief.

3. Charles Manson

Charles Manson is one of the most notorious of all serial killers. He led the Manson Family, a cult that committed several murders in 1969. He was a prolific drug user and believed in an apocalyptic race war that would destroy the world. He also used his twisted ideas to put a group of women under his spell.

Before his crimes, Manson had a long history of criminal activity. He was sent to juvenile detention when he was 13, and he spent time in prison for armed robbery, grand theft auto and other offenses. He was released from prison in 1967 and moved to San Francisco.

At that time, he was a member of a cult called “The Family.” He was surrounded by a group of followers who shared his unconventional lifestyle and his love for drugs and music. He was also known for his eccentric religious teachings that were rooted in science fiction and fringe psychology.

In 1968, he became the leader of the Family and began preaching that a race war was imminent. He claimed that God was calling for a bloody race war to start a new world, and that his group, the Family, had been called to carry out this mission.

Using his charisma and mesmerizing charm, Manson gathered a group of loyal followers and convinced them to commit murder at his behest. He envisioned himself as God’s son and the leader of a race war that would devastate the world and give the Family power.

He led his followers to commit murder at four different locations in California in the summer of 1969. They killed actress Sharon Tate (wife of film director Roman Polanski); hairstylist Jay Sebring; coffee heiress Abigail Folger; and aspiring screenwriter Wojciech Frykowski.

In the end, Manson was convicted of eight counts of first-degree murder and he served a lengthy sentence in California State Prison. He was denied parole a total of 12 times. During his imprisonment, he became increasingly ill. He died in November 2017 at age 83.

4. Bruce McArthur

One of the most chilling serial killers is Bruce McArthur, a Canadian landscape gardener who was also a shopping mall Santa Claus. He murdered eight men in Toronto’s gay village between 2010 and 2017 – and he was only recently caught.

McArthur lied about his sexuality and used drugs like GHB to lure victims into his home, where he strangled them and dismembered them before burying their body parts in a suburban garden. Investigators uncovered the remains of seven men in planters and the other in a ravine after police executed an operation in January 2018.

The victims included Skandaraj ‘Skanda’ Navaratnam, who was a refugee from Sri Lanka; Abdulbasir Faizi, who was a closeted Muslim; Dean Lisowick, a homeless sex worker; Kirushna Kumar Kanagaratnam, who was a Sri Lankan asylum seeker on a deportation order; and Majeed Kayhan, a 58-year-old Afghan immigrant who had a relationship with McArthur.

All of the men disappeared from small neighbourhoods in a Toronto suburb known as the Gay Village. Their disappearances prompted Toronto Police to launch a short-lived investigation, Project Houston, in 2012.

In a new BBC docuseries called Catching A Serial Killer: Bruce McArthur airing Friday night at 9pm on Super Channel Fuse, journalist Azhar Khan reexamines McArthur’s crimes and the way they unfolded. He explains why he wanted to understand how these men “fell through the cracks,” and what their deaths meant for LGBTQ+ communities.

As a former detective, Azhar knew that there was much more to this story than a simple murder mystery. He wanted to dig deeper into the lives of the victims and why so many of them remained missing.

According to Azhar, this was especially true of Andrew Kinsmen and Selim Essen, who both went missing in 2017. They were both closeted gay men with vulnerable pasts – including drug abuse, refugee status and being about to be deported – who had been lured by McArthur into his home.

The men also shared connections with other victims, such as Andrew’s partner. They were all immigrants of Middle Eastern or South Asian descent and had been living in the area for years. To know more about Serial Killers: The Real Life Hannibal Lecters just follow us.
