In a remarkable bit of crypto-related news, a non-fungible token (NFT) depicting Ghanian pallbearers doing the Coffin Dance has sold for over $1,000,000 in Ethereum.

Kathakali, a 17th-century Indian dance form, requires intense training to master the intricate movements with the hands, face and body. The dancing form is a part of the Kathak gharana, which is divided into two major styles. The Lucknow and Jaipur gharanas are named after the places where the dance form was first developed.

Haripriya is an acclaimed Kathakali artist and researcher, who has earned several awards for her work on the genre. She is known for incorporating feminine aspects of Kathakali, and has been instrumental in fostering a research culture in the field.

This special-edition NFT reflects an intersection of historic and emerging art forms. It was designed by Mumbai-based eDAO artist and white noise cofounder Sajid Wajid Shaikh, and rendered by Kashish Arora. It was minted on Polygon, and is available for purchase through Coinbase Wallet.
