The creme de la creme of poker took center stage at the PokerGO Studio in Las Vegas last night as the 4th Annual Global Poker Awards celebrated the best and brightest in poker. Jeff Platt and Drea Renee hosted the ceremony and gave out a raft of awards to players, media and industry members.
Player of the Year
The Player of the Year award is given to the poker player who has the most tournament results over the course of a calendar year. The award is voted on by a panel of poker players, media and industry representatives. This award was created in 2004 and is the world’s oldest player of the year prize.
The 4th annual Global Poker Awards will take place on March 3 at the PokerGO Studio in Las Vegas. It will be hosted by GPI and The Hendon Mob (THM) and will celebrate some of the best players, moments, poker content and more in the poker community.
This year’s awards will recognize 29 categories including Best Hand, Best Event, Poker Personality and more. Fans will get to vote for four categories, as well. Those categories include “Fans Choice: Best Hand”, “Fans Choice: Fave Live Stream” and “Poker Personality”.
Among the winners on the night was Hustler Casino Live, who took home the “Fans Choice: Best Hand” trophy. Also taking home an award was Robbi Jade Lew for her incredible hand against Garrett Adelstein on an episode of Hustler Casino Live.
Aside from the winners, there were several other poker pros who were honored at the event. Gabe Kaplan was posthumously awarded the “Poker ICON” award, a very deserving honor for the renowned poker commentator. He had a long career as a poker player and his wit and humor made him an iconic figure in the industry.
Other winners at the ceremony included Caitlin Comeskey who won the “Rising Star in Content Creation” award. Dan Cates won the “Final Table Performance” award and Angela Jordison was recognized as the “Breakout Player of the Year”.
The Global Poker Awards are a big production that is not limited to just the awards ceremony. It involves a lot of work behind the scenes by the GPI team to get things ready for the ceremony. They need to wrangle a panel of judges, create web pages for the award categories that will be voted on by the public, and even put together an in memoriam video. It takes a lot of work to put on this annual ceremony in Las Vegas.
Operator of the Year
